Sturgeon Lake, MN
Complete remodel of existing single story cabin, started with an addition of a new entry/ mud room area. It provided the transitional space from outdoors to inside the cabin, in addition to much needed storage space. This was the only addition to the existing footprint. A second story addition was also part of the design program, which would provide the desperately added bedroom and bath the cabin needed. A new stairway to this space was conveniently planned over the existing stair area to the crawl space below. Besides the living room area which was designed to be open to the space above, the rest of the second floor provided a bedroom and a full bath, in addition to two new loft spaces, one on each sides of the new stairway. One directly overlooking the living room below with the clerestory window and the view of the lake and the other more private space for sleeping. At the main floor the kitchen was completely redesigned to be more open to the living room/ gathering area. The existing two bed rooms and bath were revamped, especially by adding similar larger windows.
